After 20 years in the U.S. Air Force working on airplanes, Walter Mangon started Mangon Aircraft out of the back of his van. Still living at Hamilton Air Force base and working there during the day, he would spend his evenings fixing planes at the San Rafael Airport. After finally retiring, he opened a shop at the San Rafael Airport. He stayed there for 21 years building his business and grow his family. He had a son, Ron, with wife June. As Ron grew up he followed in his father's footsteps with his love of aviation. He started working on airplanes as soon as he was able to hold a wrench. Ron and Walt continued to grow their business, eventually moving it to Petaluma.

In 2008 Ron was honored make the business a Piper Authorized Service Center. While still working on all types of aircraft, representing Piper Aircraft and being able to expand our knowledge has been a joy for all our mechanics.

After just over 50 years in business its a Mangon family joy to have had three generations working together. Today, both of Ron's children, David and Danielle, work along side him. However, being a family business is not just about the three generations. It's the long time, beloved employees that have created our hard working team and keep our passion for working on airplanes going.

The Team

With over 50 years of being in business and a collection of mechanics from all different backgrounds Mangon Aircraft is well rounded in aviation!

We may be a Piper Service Center, but that doesn't mean that's all we work on. We pride ourselves on our extensive knowledge of most all general aviation aircraft.

With each employee coming with their own aviation background, we have very diverse knowledge of different airplanes. We keep thousands of parts in stock for a quicker turn around time on your airplane.  Our manuals are always the newest versions, so nothing is out of date when we're working on what you and your loved ones are flying around in. We use top of the line maintenance tracking software to keep accurate records of the work we've done. And our employees have been trained to work on aircraft per the FAA standards, and most are even sent to school for specialty work.

Just a few of the things we do:

Annual, Pre-buy, rigging (Michael's favorite), Prop Balance, we do it all. Even fill your portable oxygen bottle!

(we could list everything, but we would be here a while.)
